How would the regional climate changes affect the growth of trees?
Q. How would the regional climate changes affect the growth of trees? How is this important in dendroclimatology i dont get it.
Asked by Jerry - Wed Feb 10 13:58:07 2010 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Basically, trees grow better when the climate is good for tree growth (right temperature, adequate rain fall, right amount of sunlight, etc.) Trees don't grow well when the weather conditions are poor for tree growth (drought, too hot or too cold, etc.) Dendroclimatology is the study of determining past climates from studying trees (usually tree rings.) Since trees grow more when growing conditions are good, the tree rings for that year will be bigger. Tree rings for a bad year will be thinner (less growth). Therefore, by examining tree ring sizes, and combining that information with other climate proxy records, scientists can approximate what the climate was like.

How hard is it to get hired in regional airlines?
Q. I'm just curious. Is it hard to get in to regional airlines as pilot? Or is it easy, like everyone can do it? Is the competition really hard among candidates who want to be a pilot in regional airlines? Or very easy??? I'm talking about recently. Please answer if you were once hired from regional airlines Thanks. I am not asking about right now. I am saying "when economy is NOT BAD"
Asked by tmdngs - Wed Nov 12 19:05:43 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Right now, any airline is tough to get into. Airlines laid off thousands of pilots within the past month or two because of the economy. Whether it's regional or not, you're going to have a hard time probably for the next 1, maybe 2 or 3 years, until the economy gets better. Lets hope gas prices don't go up again, because that would cause even more lay offs and turmoil.

What about being a regional pilot?
Q. I saw the recent question on becoming a 747 pilot. Frankly, I don't like that sound of driving something THAT immense; it takes a lot of time to do too. Also, the hassle associated with entering another country and their regulations and the long flight time. Now what I am asking is this: What are the requirements of being a regional pilot flying 737ish aircraft in regional airlines like Southwest etc? I am really considering a job in travel and a pilot sounds good. Hows the training? How long? Is it worth it? What about your family life? I would appreciate answers from regional pilots or international alike, although anyone's helpful input would also help.

A. 1) What are the requirements of being a regional pilot flying 737ish aircraft in regional airlines like Southwest etc? First off, SWA is NOT a regional. Make no mistake, they are a MAJOR U.S. carrier and one of the top paying airlines at that. Any airline that flies 737s can't really be considered a "regional". In all actuality many airlines that are called such are actually majors as they have over a billion in revenue annually (the mark of a major by the D.O.T.). The "regional" airlines like the Express & Connection carriers that feed the majors (even if they are now "majors" in their own right) generally all require: 1. A Commercial pilot certificate with instrument & multi-engine ratings 2. 1,000 hours of flight experience, 100 of… [cont.]

What is the difference between regional and direct trenitalia trains?
Q. I'm going to be taking a train from Bergamo to Milan and back at the end of the month. The fastest option shows up with a D symbol on trenitalia's website and goes into Milano Centrale. The others go into Lambrate and Porta Garibaldi. These have an R symbol. I think I've worked out that D train is direct and the R trains are regional from their website. Are there any surcharges or do you have to reserve a seat on the direct trains into Milano Centrale? The trains are all short-distance within Lombardy.

A. There are actually 4 classes of train - Regionale - slowest, least comfortable. Best to use if you are going to small village stations. They are the cheapest and get there in the end! Diretto - cuts out some of the smaller stations but not the fastest trains in the world. UK commuter standard (and every bit as reliable). Express - City-to-city and until recently the top service. More expensive than the two above but trust us, its worth it! Eurostar - luxury and very fast trains. More expensive again but worth it for longer journeys. You pay for the distance, so its not cheaper to get a return than two singles, and you don't have to get the same class of train in each direction. It is a good idea to book Eurostar or Express seats… [cont.]

What should I be charging for non regional computer repair work?
Q. I work for a computer repair organization that offers me out of regional deals with extra compensation for my time. These spots are upwards of 90 minutes away from where I live and eat a considerable amount of gas and time. I have to work out a contract with them per region. How much should I be asking for? My flat rate is $30 per local job (which are usually very easy) but for long trip that involve travel and gas, what should I be charging when working out a contract? Well it is $30 dollars flat per local area. if I am out of the local 5 mile area, I get a travel fee bonus. I'm doing a about a 2-2.5 hour job today for $50 bucks for example, to cover my gas and a little extra on the side. I feel this is a little bit low personally.… [cont.]

A. I don't know where you're living, but I used to charge $60 / hour. I had a friend who charged around $90. From what I've seen $60 - $120 / hour are within industry standards. You don't want to gouge people, but I think $30 an hour is too low, especially for jobs that involve travel. If you put a high value on your work, others will, too. If you put a low value on your work, others will, too. [edit: I would have charged about $150 for a 2.5 hour job. My friend would have charged about $225. He used to scold me for charging too little! Of course, this was in central New Jersey, near Princeton, which is a pretty heavy populated, well-off area. I never had any complaints about my rates being unreasonable. What makes a college have Unspecified Regional Accreditation?
Q. If a school is listed as having Regional Accreditation, but has "Unspecified Regional Accreditation". What does that mean? Is that good or bad? Does it mean that there might be different branches of a school in different parts of the united states?
Asked by dulcechica2891 - Wed Aug 20 14:07:06 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Accredited colleges have undergraduate programs that have been approved to meet certain requirements or standards that have been set by a regional accreditation board. For example the UC campus system is accredited by ABET. Getting a degree from an accredited college basically gives your degree worth. It ensures that the academic program you went through is held at a higher value than say a degree from a 'drive-thru college.' Unspecified regional accreditation means that either the source will not disclose the name of the accreditation board for one reason or another.

Can I become a Captain for a regional airline?
Q. Im only 26 years old and im from the Bahamas. I am planning on moving to the U.S. to become an airline pilot. I recognized that there are no major airlines hiring so I decided I'll fly with a regional first. I flied for the Bahamas Defense Force for 4 years and I have over 9000 hours. It was just flying non-stop. Would this allow me to skip the first officer position and go straight to Captain on a regional.

Is Associates in Aviation enough to get a job in Regional Airlines?
Q. I believe most of them do not require pilots to have any degree. Can I get Associates in Aviation and all the Pilot Ratings from Single to Multi Engine-instructor. Would that be enough to get a job in regional airlines? If I have Associates degree and more hours of flying, do I get hired first in comparison of the one who has bachelor but less hours than me?
Asked by AMERICAN - Sun Aug 19 03:29:34 2007 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments

A. This is what they look for in the interview How many flying hours does this person have? What aircraft have they flown? How does their personality fit in with our airline? Having a degree is a bonus but it won't get you the job. There is a pilot shortage in the world at the moment so you have a good chance of getting a job without a degree but if have the time to get one. Go ahead and do it incase your aviation career falls apart you will have something else to fall back on!

Asked by <3 - Sun Mar 28 19:41:26 2010 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. There are a few languages in Iran which are totally different from one another and there are also different dialects for the country's main language, Farsi. For those parts in which people just speak Farsi but with different accents, it's not very difficult to understand. However, there are regions in which people do speak Farsi but the dialect is so different which it may sound totally strange. For example Yazd in central Iran or Kerman in southern Iran. The examples of regions at which people speak totally different language would be north west Iran (Azerbayjan), west Iran (Kurdistan), far south Iran, and north Iran (Mazandaran). Basically, the further you travel away from the center (Tehran and its regions) to the boarders of the… [cont.]

A. Yes, as long as you can meet the rest requirments for the pilot portion of your job.. To oversimplify a very complex rule, you have to have at least 24 hours off every 7 days, and must have a specified number of hours of rest before you can begin a flight assignment.

A. Usually they make intermediate stops. Crossing the Atlantic is easy, New York to Iceland is only 2,000 miles as is Iceland to London. So is crossing the Pacific. Going Seattle, Anchorage, Tokyo for example the longest overwater distance is less than 3,000 miles. Most models of either airplane have more than enough range. They would install temporary ferry tanks in the passenger compartment if they were needed

Japanese regional airline pilot to US based regional pilot?

A. From what I understand there is a real pilot shortage crisis looming, especially in North America. Students are being picked up by major airlines with hardly 200 hours because they want to reserve them when they finally get their ATP. If you have US Citizenship, I see no reason why it would not be possible. You could even go for a small US based regional airline right now, but perhaps the best would be to log in the time in Japan, get as many type ratings you can get and than go strait to a legacy airline such as AA, Delta, Northwest, Continental or United. How did you end up in Japan anyways? I'd be interested to know...
