What price will generate the greatest profit for the airline?
Q. An airline sells all tickets for a certain route at the same price. If it charges 250 dollars per ticket it sells 5000 tickets. For every 5 dollars the ticket price is reduced, an extra 500 tickets are sold. It costs the airline a hundred dollars to fly a person. What price will generate the greatest profit for the airline?
Asked by michelle v - Fri Jun 5 23:14:23 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Your goal is first to find the demand function, then find the revenue function from that, then finally the profit function. First look at demand (quantity), as a function of price. The problem tells you first that Q(250) = 5000. It also tells you the rate of change of Q is constant, so that Q is a line with slope -500/5 = -100 tickets per dollar. So Q(P) = 5000 - 100 (P-250) = 3000 - 100 P. Now you have the quantity for each price, and that gives you the revenue for each price: R(P) = P*Q(P) = P(3000 - 100P). Finally you need the total cost. The cost is 100 * Q, where Q is the number of people who fly. But Q = 3000 - 100 P, so the cost is C(P) = 100(3000-100P). Now finally the profit is revenue minus cost: Profit = R(P) - C(P) = P(30 [cont.]

How do I establish multiple price lists in Quickbooks?
Q. My client is a food wholesaler who maintains three different customer price lists: one for online retail customers, one for distributors, one for direct store customers. Each price list contains the same items, but the prices are different. I want for the customer's proper sale price to come up each time an item is entered on their invoice. I know I can create three different codes for each item but then the item wouldn't be removed from inventory. Any ideas? Incidentally, it seems that using "price levels" won't work because differences in customer prices can't be defined by a percentage up or down from a base amount.

A. I think the feature you need is called a price level. Per item price levels are only available in Premier and higher versions. Here is a knowledge base article that explains the functionality of price levels.

As a result, we would expect 1. an increase in market output and an increase in the price of the product 2. an increase in market output and an decrease in the price of the product 3. a decrease in market output and an increase in the price of the product. 4. a decrease in market output and a decrease in the price of the product.

A. 4. Competing entities have combined information and resources. There is the capacity to be more efficient in production and research of demand. The new entity is better equipped to compete with other producers of the same product. Strategic production of the correct quantity of product at the most competitive price is the benefit of the merger.

What causes the price of crude oil to flunctuate so much?
Q. Do they just find some more oil and then the price goes back down until they run low again? Do consumers really use less when the prices are higher? I don't see that we are using less. I think we all just grumble about the price of gas as we fill our tanks because we know we have no control over it. Or do we? And if so, how?
Asked by madonnarox13 - Sun Nov 11 06:24:25 2007 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. There are many factors that affect the price of oil. When the world economy is strong then the use of oil around the globe increases which will cause the price to go up. Bottlenecks in refining can also create increased prices, although the oil is drilled and shipped quickly it is slow through the refining process and to market. Geographical risks around oil prodcuing countries which if escalated could impact the availibility of oil also has an impact. Bottom line, supply and demand will dictate the price of oil and so does that little organization that has the world by the nads, OPEC.

A. <<>> Both. The current stock price determines if the option is in the money at the current time. Q. Looking to sell my Mercury outboard, It's a 40hp 1995. The fiberglass cover (cowling) has a hole in it. It was put in storage approx 6 years ago, and ran fine at that time. It also has the controls, as well as tilt and trim. I'm planning on putting it on craigslist soon, but i'm not sure what a decent asking price would be. Anyone familiar with the prices of outboards? What price do I use to figure a capital gain or loss?
Q. I bought stock when I worked for a company which gave me a 15% discount on stock purchases. I am planning to sell it soon, so should I figure a capital gain or loss based on the actual price when the stock was purchased, or the discounted price I actually paid? I have had the stock for several years, so it's a long-term sale either way.

Q. I recently bought roller coaster tycoon 2 and I am in debt because I cant increase te price admission fee. The admission price is free and I click on the dollar symbol, and there is no option for me to change price admission. Please help. Might I add that I think I the problem may be that I have to complete my goal or objective in the game first to be able to change the price admission. Its just a guess. Has this problem ever happened to you.
Asked by starzzz - Sun Aug 30 18:00:59 2009 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. It depends. Some parks allow you to change the admission price and not the price of the rides. Other parks like the one you might be on, you cant change the admission price but you can change the prices of the rides and stalls. That might be your problem, maybe you just didn't know that some parks didnt allow you to change admission prices and some of them are always at $0 or something like that. But RCT2 is a hella fun game.

What is a fair price to pay for a website to be built for my business?

Asked by Kevin - Sat May 29 02:49:51 2010 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. It depends on what kind of website you need, how involved and complicated it is. Are forms needed, will you be needing a shopping cart? and a host of other questons. An average guide would be $65 per hr...average 2 hrs per page...so for every page on your site you can expect to pay $130. Many people know how to build very basic personal sites, but they don't know about linking and a million other things. Most have no design skill either. Depending on your business and your budget of course, but you will most likely need someone who has the skills to create you a quality site. That's when you will expect to pay for it. How is a stock price manipulated down so it can be bought at a lower price?
Q. I heard that the price is driven down to get other owners of the same stock to panic and sell. Then the ones driving the stock down buy it back at the lower price. Is this true?
Asked by Kuntree - Fri Sep 14 01:30:20 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. There are many ways to do that. The most convincing argument is the stock price itself. If you have enough fire power, you can drive the stock price down by shorting it to bring out the sellers and buying back and more at a lower price. Or you can get a clown like Jim Cramer to yell "sell" on CNBC, or otherwise strategically place "articles" or "opinions". You can get an analyst to downgrade the stock or "express concern over valuation". Sometimes staying silent and not expressing an opinion when everybody is expecting it will do the trick - for example, a broker that brings a hot stock to market cannot talk about it for 30 days. If they don't say anything after the silent period is over, people get nervous and assume the worst.

How to negotiate the price for a newly built home?
Q. I'm a first-time home buyer and decided to buy a home that is about to be built this fall. The basic price of it is $400,000. We've added $40,000 worth of options and upgrades. What would be an effective way to negotiate the price and how much discount is reasonable to ask for? Thanks!

How can I track the price of airline flights for specific dates?
Q. I will be travelling to Miami in Jan 2008. Is there a way to track the price of airline flights for specific dates (ala travelocity) as opposed to only tracking the general prices between two cities with undefined dates? Else, what is a good website that defines good, average and poor prices for airline flight between two cities?

A. Most airline websites allow you to select the exact travel days and departure/arrival times to view the cost and availability. Also, websites like travelocity, expedia, hotwire, priceline and cheaptickets showcase a variety of airlines along with the cheapest price. The best way to track airline flights is to form an excel spreadsheet. Include the travel website names going down the column and the day you checked the rates across the rows. Check each website daily and keep track of the rate pattern. This is a tedious assignment, but can save you lots of money. Also, your trip is well in the future, so you have some room to wait to purchase. Be cautious of Holiday rates. Booking buddy and sidestep may be helpful as well. Good… [cont.]

How important is price to you when buying the following?
Q. : clothes, milk, computers, haircuts, rental cars? What nonprice factors are more important than price? How much time do you spend evaluating factors other than price when making such purchases?
Asked by hair - Mon Apr 5 22:53:05 2010 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I think nonprice factors become more important when you can see a difference between the choices. When you don't see a difference, price becomes most important. Nonprice factors that are important: quality, reliability, reputation One criteria on how much time I spend evaluating probably is in relation to cost, the more expensive the more important making a good decision is. Another criteria would be how bad would a bad decision be - if didn't like the color of the rental car - it's gone in a couple days; if don't like how the new person cut your hair - you're stuck with that for weeks.

Q. I am looking for a condo or townhouse to buy in the central part of Connecticut. In spite of the depressed conditions of the market these days, I still find the asked price for some units on the high side. I appreciate that the owner has to make a profit, however, I want to pay what is reasonable, considering the circumstances. How do I decide on the price to offer? Shall I discount a certain percentage of the asking price? what is the best strategy?

A. first of all find out what condo's in the area you are looking at are selling for now! that will show you what the market is doing currently. Also consider when making your offer asking for 6% seller concessions this will help cover all your closing costs and what is left over can help you greatly! i would say instead of trying to figure what percentage look at whats sold recently and at what price form there include closing costs when you make an offer! this will give you the most bang for your buck and make the seller pay yor closing costs. have an approval from a lender when you make your offer and you will have the most impact with the seller. Is the purchase price different if I pay cash instead of financing at a dealership?

Asked by vicki g - Sun Jan 18 18:01:56 2009 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The truth is you'll get a better price if you finance through the dealership. A dealer can afford to give you a better price because he'll make it up on the financing. This won't be a huge difference. Maybe a few hundred dollars, plus the savings in tax. But any additional discount helps your bottom line. Tell the salesman you're financing. Get your best price then tell him you've changed your mind. You'll pay cash instead. And at the price you've been given. There's a myth regarding trade-ins. A lot of people that are not in the business say NEVER reveal you have one until all the other numbers are worked out b/c you'll get more for it by holding out. B.S.! What is the price of a typical keyboard piano?
Q. I've been working a lot this spring and saving up for nothing. Now I've got the money but don't know what to spend it on. Could someone give me the approximate price of a new keyboard piano. Link and price please.
Asked by Haydz - Wed Jun 16 20:43:14 2010 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. First off, even the best electronic keyboards sound better hooked up to an amp (specifically a piano amp), so you should probably spend a portion of your money on an amp. Even poor pianos sound good with an amp, so really, the deciding factor of what to buy should be how it feels to you. Keyboards with wieghted keys (meant to imitate grand pianos) are heavier and cost more. I have a keyboard with weighted keys that cost me around $600. You can get very good ones for even under that price. The price depends completely on how good you want your piano to sound and feel.
